Map of the Month

North Quabbin Trails Association presents a 2 part series, “Tales from the Trails” and “High Adventures”, from along NQTA’s mapped 250-miles of interconnected trail systems from Quabbin to Monadnock. These articles will appear in the Athol Daily News.

“Tales from the Trails” will be coming from the owner of Orange Innovation Center, NQTA board member, Travel and Tourism Coordinator, and professional travel writer Jack Dunphy. Jack will be regaling us in his journalistic storytelling style, coming live from a trail section and NQTA event along the Q+M Experience.

“High Adventures” and an accompanying “Map of the Month” will be coming from Bobby Curley, President and Trail Whisperer at NQTA. You’ll find the free monthly maps here.

The map of the month for June 2023 is Green Woods Road to Fall Brook Gorge

This is a 3.2 mile out and back hike.

Imagine mountain laurel and other flora along a hike thru a primeval gorge. The gorge was millions of years in the making and features sculptured granite arched bridges and smoothed, shiny multi-colored granite washbowls. A true archeological wonderment. Continue on for lunch at Falls Brook shelter and out to the remote and magnificent Royalston Falls, a true gem of our North Quabbin region.

There are slippery and rocky areas. Wear appropriate hiking footwear and insect repellent.
